Student Accommodation Development
In 2014 Southside procured a large parcel of land in the dominant student accommodation precinct of Auckland's CBD. We were attracted to the opportunity given the strength of demand for quality student accommodation, and the immaturity of Auckland's purpose built student accommodation sector relative to global trends. We went through a long battle to obtain resource consent for a twin tower student accommodation scheme to house over 1,000 students in gross floor area of approx 25,000 sqm - dramatically lifting what was thought possible on what is a challenging site. The twin tower scheme provided the ability to stage the development over time, and the flexibility to sell the end product as two separate parcels. In 2015 we sold the consented project to the University of Auckland who will vary the design to their requirements and deliver the project for their own property portfolio.
